South Lake Tahoe’s summer calendar is thriving as several iconic and traditional events make the triumphant return to the area.

The nationally recognized “Lights on the Lake” entails 20 minutes of bright lights and colors that illuminate the night sky to celebrate Independence Day by pairing sounds of American classics and today’s top hits to perfectly executed pyrotechnics.

Besides being in a boat, viewing spots include Nevada Beach, Lakeview Commons, and Van Sickle Bi-State Park; area officials advise viewers to plan ahead, consider alternative modes of transportation and take all trash/belongings when the show concludes. Go here for more information.

Sports and entertainment superstars will take to the fairways of Edgewood Tahoe, July 6-10, for the 33rd rendition of the American Century Championship, celebrity golf’s most prominent tournament. Gallery favorites Justin Timberlake, Charles Barkley, and Larry the Cable Guy will be joined by first time players Colin Jost of Saturday Night Live, The Miz of World Wrestling Entertainment fame, and Jake Owen, country music singer/songwriter to compete for $600,000 and charity fundraising during the 54-hole tournament.

A 21-year-old Dayton man died in a single vehicle rollover crash that happened early Friday morning on I-580 at the northbound College Parkway ramp.

On Saturday, May 15, 2022, at approximately 4:03 p.m., Troopers with the Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol Division, responded to reports of a vehicle upside down in the river at SR-88 near Douglas County mile marker 3 in Gardnerville.

Western Nevada College celebrated its 2021-22 graduates for the second straight day on Tuesday at the Carson City campus. The first ceremony was held Monday. A third ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday morning on the Fallon campus.

A Memorial Day ceremony will be held Memorial Day, Monday, May 30 to pay tribute in recognition of fallen Native American war veterans who have died. The event is presented by the 630 Silverstate Marine Corps League Detachment of Carson City.

UPDATE 1:37PM: According to Carson City Fire Department Battalion Chief Jon Pedrini, the fire was knocked down and contained at around 1.5 acres. Firefighters are doing "mop-up" or cleanup of the area. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
