NAPOLEON — The Wauseon boys track team finished second in the Napoleon Wildcat Invitational at Buckenmeyer Stadium on Saturday while the Defiance girls team finished third overall.

In the boys meet, Jonas Tester picked up victories in the long jump and 200 for the Indians while Sam Smith Jr. won the 100 and teamed with Tester, Logan Carroll and J.D. Hogan for a win in the 400 relay. Jackson Callan was first in the 1600 and second in the 3200 for the Tribe while Hunter Wasnich and Matthew Shaw earned wins in the 3200 and shot put, respectively.

For Defiance, Josh Horvath led the way for the boys team with a win in the 300 hurdles and third-place showing in the 110 hurdles while Cole and Noah Batt joined Eli Fortman and Viktor Jurcevich to win the 3200 relay. Josh Mack won the 110 hurdles and was second in the long jump for Napoleon while Landin Wiechers won the 400 and ran a leg of the winning 800 and 1600 relays.

The girls meet featured a stellar showing from the Defiance relays. The 1600 relay quartet of Emily Wahl, Joslyn Renn, Mira Horvath and Sam Hohenberger finished first while the 800 and 3200 relays were both runners-up. Wahl added an individual win in the 800 while Hohenberger was first in the 400 and third in the 200 and Renn (second, 400) and Horvath (third, 800) added top-three finishes. Layla Briseno was fourth in both the 1600 and 3200.

Teagan Rupp was second in the long jump and Grace Rhoades was third in the 1600 for Wauseon while Sophie Rupp and Chloe Merillat won the high jump and 300 hurdles, respectively, for Archbold.

In other area track action, Tinora competed in a tough field featuring Division I opponents at the Mansfield Mehock Relays. The Ram boys team finished eighth in the team standings while the girls were ninth. Kjerstin Scott was fourth in the 100 and ran legs of the fourth-place relay finishes in the 400 and 800 relays with Amanda Meyer, Julia Durfey and Anna Gray. Meyer added a fifth-place finish in the long jump while Lauren Sattler was sixth in the 1600 and anchored the fifth-place 3200 relay.

In the boys meet, Owen Ackerman was third in the high jump and sixth in the long jump for the Rams. The 3200 relay team of Lance Rinkel, Cole Anders, Paul Westrick and Jaxen Durfey was third while Durfey, Rinkel, Gavin Eckert and Dustin Haas were fourth in the 1600 relay.

In the Liberty Center Invitational, the host Tigers finished six points back of the boys team title while the LC girls outscored Woodmore 166.5-134 to earn the team title.

The 400 relay team of Kate and Ellie Mohler, Aubree Hollenbaugh and Peyton Armey set a meet record in 51.50 while Bryan’s Aquilina Cordic set a new meet record with a 47.33 in the 300 hurdles.

Bryan star senior distance runner Joshuah Taylor did not compete in the meet Saturday after running in the Franklin Central (Ind.) Flashes Miracle Mile event on Friday. Taylor set a personal record in the 1600 with a time of 4:23.69 (fourth) against top competition from the Hoosier State.
